Not sure if it's a bug or an "enhancement", but the same has happened to me. In the previous beta, when you return from the lake, it acts like any other map, you return to the previous map where you originally exited. With this new version, I end up in a grove of trees, trapped. It seems consistent for me, I've run three characters through it (elf, halfling, dwarf mages), and all have done the same.
I just phase door or teleport out and it works fine. Of course, if you don't have those options available for some reason...
EDIT: Just got stuck in the trees with a Berserker that only had a phase door infusion of 6 tiles, preventing the above escape. Using a pickaxe to dig out ate up a lot of game time (I dug diagonally, 17 tiles!), but that's another way out if you're stuck.

Is there supposed to be a 7th level and why is it entirely covered in trees... I think i'm stuck in a bug.
If you've downloaded b25, try using the new binary (mac/linux/win) on the old b24 files (backup your old binary!), I believe the reknor fix lies in the binary, not the lua, and the binaries are "compatible".
b25 sounds fun, but this mage is so good it's worth save grinding my mage through the b24 reknor map issue. Thanks for letting me know I should persevere :)

Reknor crash fix is part of the minimap fix.
As for saves, always assume they are not compatible
but I just gotta ask:
are characters from b24 transferable to b25?
I know, I'm a programmer too, and I doubt the data model changes would accommodate for this, but I'd really love to port a character so I'll be brave and ask.

I don't notice the crashing of the game after a character enters the ruins of Reknor mentioned, unless it's fixed by one of the things already listed.

Many thanks for highlighting my module, DarkGod. And thanks for making the T-Engine, of course. I was sure at the start I was going to fail the challenge, but the whole thing turned out to be much easier to pick up than I expected. Hopefully others will be encouraged to try out the T-Engine for their own games in future.
I added Shaloren racial trees earlier today. I guess there needs to be more communication on how the wiki is organized
That is because saves are not compatible and the t-engine changed so it would not recognize the previous save anyway.
I cant see my save from beta23 in beta24. Anyone else have same problem?

Maybe an anorithil for a complete change of pace, or a sun paladin, they are closer to fighters btu will introduce you to spellcasting too

Sparky killed the Bile Wyrm in the sandworm lair, and drank the putrescent potion. He then went to Daikara, where he encountered Massok and died and was resurrected by the Blood of Life. After failing to do significant damage to Massok without taking life threatening damage himself, Sparky abandoned Daikara and went to Dreadfell where he had a much easier time disposing of the Pale Drake.
Sparky has now completed his tour of the refreshed dungeons in Maj'Eyal and is venturing through Reknor to get the athame and the diamond from the boss at the old portal.
Sparky did the Spider quest without major incident, and killed Ungole and rescued the Sun Paladin. He then went to Vor Armoury to look for the blood-runed athame. While there, the Orc Cryomancers went berserk with their Ice Storm spells and did major damage to their compatriots, so that when Sparky encountered the orcs, they were already mostly near death. Sparky did not go looking for the chamber where the Ancient Multi-hued Wyrms are rumored to reside. He then went to Briagh's den where he had an epic battle with Briagh and his many summoned minions.
Sparky is now back in Maj'Eyal. He has left the Orb of Many Ways with Tannen while he goes around to the major dungeons to encounter the new "backup" guardians. Somehow the Maze guardian evaded Sparky's search. The Sandworm Lair is Sparky's next target, but that will have to wait for a PC reboot because of a shader problem which can cause major instability in the t-engine.

The trip through Reknor was challenging, but even Golbug the Destroyer turned out to be no match for Sparky's destructive power. After passing through the portal, Sparky killed Krogar and saved the lady. Passage through the cave was uneventful, and Sparky made his way to the Gates of Morning. He has lined up the main orc prides, the Vor Armoury quest and the spider quest.
Sparky is now at level 32.
What kind of problems are you having? ToME's been very stable for me this release, although it certainly complains alot. Many of the LUA errors end up being harmless as far as i can tell... just skip them and keep playing!

The Greater Mummy Lord was Sparky's next victim in the Elven Ruins, and then Sparky went to Trollmire and Kor'Pul just to see if their bosses dropped anything worthwhile. He got Eden's Guile from Bill and the Blood of Life from The Shade of Kor'Pul.
Those screenshots sure take me back :) Especially like the Old Forest and overland map. Nice work.
Wow that was fast! I had a feeling the copyright issue might be a problem, but your solution seems to be a good one. Supported but not included in the download is perfect for something like this! Glad you like it!

Obviously copyright stuff will prevent inclusion in the default version but I have added an autodetection for next beta:
If you put a folder named "oldrpg" inside data/gfx/ and put your stuff inside it will add a new entry in the graphics mode menu allowing you to select it :)
Sparky next entered the Spellblaze, to seek out the Grand Corrupter. He agreed to accompany the corrupters in their assault on Zigur, and prevailed against Protector Myssil and his Ziguranth allies. This unlocked the corrupter class, which completes the unlocks at this time. All that remains in Maj'Eyal is the Elven Ruins, and then Sparky will be heading for Reknor and points East.
